Fully Customisable

First-time visitors, trekking groups, family road trips or solo adventures — every Tawang itinerary is built fresh for you, with the right pace for altitude acclimatisation.

"Standing at Bumla Pass at 15,200 feet — literally at the border of two countries — was the most surreal moment of my life. SafarPanda handled all our permits seamlessly. Sela Pass at sunrise should be on every Indian's bucket list."

"We took our parents (aged 60+) on the 6N7D package and it was perfect. The guide monitored altitude closely, planned rest days wisely and the monastery morning prayer was an experience that moved my mother to tears. No stress, zero paperwork. Absolutely recommend SafarPanda."

"Six of us went on the 7N8D package — the Zemithang Valley day was something none of the other Tawang agencies even offered. Ancient gorges, a crumbling dzong, yaks on the hillside and zero tourists. That day alone was worth the whole trip."

FAQs

Common questions before you book

March to June and September to November are the two ideal windows. Post-monsoon (October–November) brings the clearest skies and golden-hour views of the Himalayas. March–May sees rhododendrons blooming on the Sela Pass. December and January bring snowfall — roads can be blocked and Bumla Pass is often closed. We advise against peak monsoon (July–August) as landslides can affect the mountain roads significantly.
Fly into Guwahati (LGBI Airport, Assam) — the nearest major hub with direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Chennai. From Guwahati, Tawang is roughly 450 km (10–12 hrs) via Bhalukpong–Bomdila–Sela Pass. Alternatively, fly to Tezpur (TZU) which has Kolkata connections and cuts road travel by about 3 hours. There is no regular commercial flight service to Tawang itself. All our packages include airport pick-up from Guwahati or Tezpur.
Yes — all non-residents of Arunachal Pradesh require an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter the state. Foreign nationals additionally require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. A separate Restricted Area Permit is needed for Bumla Pass (the Indo-China border). We handle all of these permits for you before your departure — it's included in every package. You just need to provide a copy of your ID (Aadhaar/Passport) when booking.
Tawang town sits at ~10,000 ft (3,050m) and Sela Pass reaches 13,700 ft — so altitude awareness is important. Our itineraries are built with gradual acclimatisation in mind: a night in Bhalukpong (~300 ft), then Bomdila (~8,500 ft), then Tawang. We keep Day 1 in Tawang light and pace Bumla Pass for Day 2 or later. Our guides carry basic altitude medicine and monitor guests throughout. We advise avoiding alcohol the first night and staying hydrated. Guests with known cardiac or respiratory conditions should consult a doctor before booking.
Foreign nationals (except Pakistan and Bangladesh nationals) can visit Tawang with a Protected Area Permit (PAP), which we arrange. However, Bumla Pass is currently restricted to Indian citizens only — foreign visitors cannot access the Indo-China border area. Madhuri Lake, Nuranang Falls, Tawang Monastery and all other standard itinerary sights are fully accessible to international tourists. We design foreign-visitor itineraries to ensure the best possible experience within permitted zones.
Yes — Arunachal Pradesh is among India's safest states for women travellers. The Monpa people are known for their warmth and hospitality. Solo women travellers and all-women groups visit regularly without issues. We have a dedicated women's travel option with a female co-guide on request. Our guide stays with you throughout the trip — including at Bumla Pass where Army personnel are present and the environment is orderly and secure.
Fill the form on this page (takes 60 seconds). Our Tawang expert calls you within 24 hours, understands your dates, group and preferences, and sends a detailed custom itinerary with a full price breakdown — completely free. Once you're satisfied, we confirm your slot with a small advance and begin processing your ILP permits immediately. Full payment only after you're happy with the plan. No booking fees, no hidden charges.
